Honouring Remembrance Day: The Symbol of the Poppy and the Meaning Behind the Two Minutes' Silence

Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day, commemorates the end of World War I, when the armistice was signed on the 11th of November 1918. The two-minute silence observed at 11:00 am allows us to reflect on the courage of those who fought and continue to serve today.

The poppy has become an enduring symbol of this day. Its bright red petals serve as a poignant reminder of the bloodshed in Flanders fields, where poppies grew amidst devastation. Inspired by the famous poem "In Flanders Fields," the poppy symbolises resilience, hope, and the enduring memory of those who gave their lives.
