Halloween often gets mistaken for a Christian Holiday, but its roots come from an ancient pagan festival.

Trick-or-treating began in areas of the UK and Ireland. Poor people would go house to house, souling so they could get breads called "soul cake" in exchange for blessings and prayers.
Halloween is not something that many people fear. Halloween anxiety is actually called Samhainophobia.
People used to believe that Halloween was a day when the gates of hell would open, and everyone would be too scared to move or even go outside. It's hard not to be afraid of such a thing.

The word witch derives from Old English and can mean (noun) wise woman, or (verb) to whisper. At one point in time, these women would gather on Halloween night in a sabbat.

The original jack-o’-lanterns were actually made from turnips.

Pumpkins can be orange, white, red, and gray in color.

The world's largest pumpkin weighed in at over 1,000 kilograms, just wow.

The traditional witch's animal is the black cat, spider, or bat because of the associations to witches with these animals. They were thought to be pets of witches in medieval times, and are often associated with bad luck.

As the largest Halloween parade in the United States, the Village Halloween Parade has over 50,000 participants and 2 million spectators.
In many cultures, people return to their hometowns on Halloween and buy candles and flowers for All Saint's Day on November 1st.
